The ice caps are said to be melting at an alarming rate, the sun’s rays are getting hotter, and the ozone layer may be in it’s death throes. What can the average person, including you, do about it all? Solar energy efficiency may be the answer you’re looking for. All throughout the news and the internet, global climate change has been rearing it’s ugly head more and more often. Solar energy efficiency should begin with the basic solar panel. Solar panels can come in two different forms, photovoltaic or thermal, but photovoltaic solar panels are the ones used most often in residential homes.

Solar panels technology has led the charge over the past couple of decades to get affordable and durable solar panels into the hands of the average citizen, and this had led to an increase in alternative energy usage. Solar energy efficiency itself cannot stop climate change. This should be obvious to anyone who’s been paying attention to what’s going on – but, it can do a lot to help. Using solar panels technology itself is a personal declaration that you’re sick and tired of using environmentally hostile forms of energy, and that you support the research and discovery of newer, alternative energies that will help the planet, and not be a hindrance towards it.

Solar panels, systems and individual, are just a good step in the right direction. After using solar panels technology for a little while, you’ll begin to notice other areas in your life that deal with energy and need improvement. It could instill in you the desire to drive a hybrid car, or cut down on travel and oil spending altogether. Others will see your use of solar panels and will want to buy solar panels for home improvement. There are a myriad of possibilities out there, but it all starts with you first. It will take a lot more effort to curtail climate change, and the possible shortages and disasters that it may entail for the future.

Becoming energy independent and using solar energy efficiency will go a long way in ensuring that you’re doing your part to help the environment, and that you’re conscious of the troubles that are currently inflicting the planet.Being informed about the problems is one thing. Taking action against them is in a whole different ballpark altogether. In our world that is bombarded with the rising prices of utilities, specifically high electricity bills, the only way to save a significant amount of money is to look for other sources of energy. Residential solar energy has a lot of benefits that we can enjoy for as long as we learn the right ways to obtain it.

Work of photovoltaic panels

The solar photovoltaic cells in photovoltaic panels offer us the mechanism to capture sunlight and to convert it into useful electric energy. Photovoltaic cells have at two or more layers of semiconductors, such as silicone. One of these will be positively charged, and one negatively. The photo part refers to light or sunlight in this context and voltaic relates to the production of electricity. Therefore photovoltaic electricity is the electric energy we get from sunlight.  When sunlight reaches the semiconductor in a cell, the electric field where these opposing layers meet causes electricity to flow.

The greater the intensity of the light that falls on the cell, the greater the flow of electricity. During the course of the day, the amount of light received from the sun will vary. Radiation will typically start out small, gradually increase until noon when it peaks, and then it will slowly decrease during the rest of the afternoon.  There are many kinds of photovoltaic panels. More recently the market has started seeing PV tiles that fit onto any standard roof. The attraction of photovoltaic tiles is that they have a minimal visual impact, compared to other panel systems. The light on the solar PV panels is converted into clean electric energy, and there are no moving parts involved, making such an installation extremely durable and maintenance free.

The power you will draw from this photovoltaic solar panel system is initially Direct Current (DC). By adding an inverter, this DC current is switched to Alternating Current (AC) to seamlessly power your household appliances.  The solar electricity then reaches the mains via the fuse board. The amount of electricity generated with the photovoltaic cells system can be measured and recorded with a meter, and, depending on your relationship with the electricity supplier in your local area, any excess electricity can be sold back to them.  The amount of energy available from the sun varies depending on your location. It is calculated on the basis of the amount of available solar ratiation at noon, which gives you the daily average hours of maximum radiation.

Even in cloudy regions such as Scotland, where 800KW hours per square meter is the average, or London which receives 1000, such radiation is enough to power energy efficient homes. You would need only around 10m2 or less of photovoltaic panels to power such a home entirely from solar electricity. If you want to first calculate the number of photovoltaic panels you will need to get the desired amount of energy, or even to go completely off grid, there are solar calculators available specifically for this purpose. You should also consult some of the published research about your city or region to determine the expected amount of average daily solar radiation in your area.

The first step to take to determine if solar paneling is the best option for you, is to look at what is naturally around your residential area. If you are considering solar paneling, you want to make sure you understand how this energy source works. For instance, if you are in a higher region and are angled toward the sun in the right way, then solar panels work most efficiently. If you are in an area that is open and that has more wind, then considering this as an alternative may be best. By evaluating your residential area first, you can make a determination of whether solar panels will work best for your needs.

If you are considering solar panels, you want to begin with taking the right measurements. Solar paneling works as a renewable source of energy because it is able to take the energy from the sun and reproduce it into an energy source. As this moves into your home, it is able to transfer into forms of energy for electricity, heating and air conditioning. Many have found that this basic concept can lead to energy bills almost disappearing while providing a completely alternative source for keeping the lights on. In order for solar energy to work, you have to have a space on your roof that is able to take in the right amount of solar heating.

The solar panels will take this in through a form of energy, known as photovoltaic cells. These are naturally stored in the solar panels and are able to absorb the sun s heat as it moves into the panel. After these are absorbed, it is able to convert the heat into a form of energy that can be used in the home. This allows the home to use the energy for various areas of the home. With the solar paneling system, you can easily begin to save on energy by using a renewable energy source.

Solar electricity is created by using solar power cells to convert the sun light into energy. Solar electricity is created in solar panels that are constructed to take advantage of the photons in the atmosphere. The solar panels are constructed from specially treated materials that are semiconductors. These are mostly composed of silicon atoms. The panels are constructed of two sheets of this material and separated by an electric field to allow the atoms to interact from either side. This is done by using the energy of speeding photons to create an electrical current in a solar panel.

What are photons? Photons are created by the fusion of atoms in the center of the sun. It takes millions of years for a photon to make its way to the surface of the sun, but once they are free they are hurled fast enough to make it to the earth in about eight minutes! Another word for photons is quanta; these are actually little packets of sunlight. Solar electricity is simply changing the sunlight into electricity, sounds pretty easy doesn’t it? That’s what I thought when I first started researching it. The way it works is complicated for a novice like me but using it is as simple as the electricity in any home.

The only difference is that solar energy does not harm the earth. Solar electricity is built up in the solar panel and then it is transferred through a wire to a converter and then into your home. The energy from the sun is DC current so it must be changed into AC current for use in the home. The power from the newer systems can often produce more power than from your utility company. If you stay connected to them the excess power is fed into their lines and you receive a credit on your bill for this. It’s a great way to help the environment and save money at the same time.

Solar power has been in use for centuries for varied purposes, such as drying laundry, sustaining life, and growing crops. Recently, the solar power benefits have taken a larger shape and are used to generate power by creating energy. Since solar energy is free and renewable, it has proved to be of great use in those areas that receive a large amount of sun but do not have much electrical infrastructure facilities. Solar power is of great use as it helps in saving on electricity bills and other huge expenses. Different types of solar power items can be used in order to make your life easier. There are a number of ways in which the solar energy can be conveniently harnessed and the most important ones are as follows:

Solar heating is generated with the usage of solar collectors that help in heating up the cold air thereby circulating it into some structure or building in order to create or generate heat. The hot air gets circulated as soon as the hot air gets raised and the cold air gets inside the structure, and thus the air gets heated with the use of the solar collector. The photovoltaic or solar cells help in converting the rays of the sun into electricity. These solar cells are also used in different ways such as powering satellites and powering a home. One of the most important reasons that people consider solar power homes is that they have become aware of the fact that the technology of solar energy is more crucial in the coming of years than it ever was.

The most interesting reason for installing the solar power in homes is that people wish to save money on monthly utility bills. According to a survey conducted, a large majority of people wanted homebuilders and constructors to provide solar power homes to the masses. It has also been found that people shift to the option of solar power homes as the resale value of these properties are much higher as compared to ordinary real estate. Therefore, people are willing to pay a high price so that they can get a home installed with the solar system. Not only are solar power homes in vogue these days but even the ways of moving trash have been made solar. The solar power trashcans or garbage resemble the huge street side mailboxes minus the legs.

The solar garbage uses a 12 volt battery, which connects to the solar panel on the trash’s top. This powers the compactor and allows the trashcan to squeeze and compress the garbage bin thereby eliminating the task of empting it so often. Even solar power lights are highly used and demanded nowadays due to the benefits they provide. These solar lights contribute largely in lighting your driveways and paths gracefully and look great while saving huge costs on electricity bills. Other solar power items that are greatly beneficial include solar WI-FI Internet, rooftops, water fountains, and battery chargers to make your life easier and most importantly, cost effective.
